Changing Laws and Policy
There has been a steady, incremental march toward gender equality in this country. But we still have a long way to go.
To realize true equality, we need to enact new laws and strengthen existing ones. For example, we need to demand pay transparency and extend equal pay protections to all employers, including farmworkers, domestic workers, and independent contractors; pass paid family and medical leave in states beyond the handful that have it; ensure affordable child care; and guarantee protections against pregnancy discrimination. And we must continue to advocate for additional federal legislation on these issues.
