One century after women fought for suffrage, Sen. Kamala Harris has become the first Black and Asian woman to be elected Vice President of the United States.

Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME’S UP Now, reflected on this historic election: “We are trying to change cultural norms that have existed for millennia. It wasn’t going to change in four years, and it wasn’t going to change with just one election. Her candidacy is a huge step forward in that generations-long battle for progress. We need to celebrate that step forward and build on it.”
