TIME’S UP: Donald Trump Must Be Removed From Office
Changing Laws & Policy, Equity, Federal Policy, Power, Safety, Trump Administration
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, President Donald Trump incited a large group of domestic terrorists to storm and rampage the Capitol Building in an attempt to stop the certification of electoral votes for President-elect Joe Biden. This comes after President Trump failed to concede his loss in the 2020 Presidential election and after federal judges tossed aside nearly 60 lawsuits to overturn the election results.
Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME’S UP Now, provided the following statement, calling for President Trump’s removal from office:
“A peaceful transition of power is the bedrock of our constitutional democracy. President Trump has failed his responsibilities as President of the United States by failing to accept the results of an election he lost by more than 7 million popular votes and 74 electoral votes. He has announced that he will not even attend the inauguration of his successor. Instead, he knowingly incited a violent insurrection to undermine our democratic process.
“The domestic terrorist attack we witnessed this week made crystal clear we are living in two different Americas: one in which armed white terrorists are met with a slap on the wrist while peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters are met with violence. Every day that President Trump is still in office is a national security risk.
“We join a chorus of bipartisan voices demanding Congress to reconvene and get back to work to do what needs to be done: remove President Trump from office immediately.”
