Five Essential Policies Women Workers Need Now
Changing Laws & Policy, Equity, Federal Policy, Power, Safety, TIME'S UP Impact Lab
The COVID-19 crisis has revealed the underlying inequities that hold so many women, particularly women of color, back from true success and security.
Over the next few months, TIME’S UP Now will be doubling down on fighting for the essential policies women workers need — and which are long overdue.
Lack of paid leave. Inaccessible and expensive child care. Rampant sexual harassment. A pay gap that is closing far too slowly. Pregnancy and caregiver discrimination.
These are the structural problems that have held women back from equality for decades. And the COVID-19 crisis has revealed just how devastating it is for millions of women who lack these basic, essential policies.
We’re seeing how women are the majority of our essential workers, including health care professionals, grocery store workers, and caregivers. We’re witnessing how women are shouldering additional responsibilities at home, disproportionately caring for sick family members or balancing child care while trying to put food on the table.
Make no mistake: Women workers are getting us through this coronavirus crisis. And women workers deserve basic protections both during this emergency and well beyond it.
